The CrossCountry HST guard tries to explain to this hapless family what alternatives are available for them to complete their journey. The train for which they have tickets, the 06:01 Glasgow Central - Newquay, was booked to be diverted via the Severn tunnel but, in the event, was to be terminated at Gloucester because of animals on the line near Lydney. To travel to Bristol and beyond would entail an uncomfortable ride on an overcrowded CrossCountry Voyager to Reading followed by a First Great Western train to their final destination.
