Wolverhampton, July 1986

WMPTE MCW Metrobus No. 2271 turns into Broad Street from Princes Square with a cross-town working on 23rd July 1986.

Holt, Plant & Deakin was a short lived venture by Allied Breweries, one of the big six brewing groups at the time. The name of a long defunct brewery was revived and a micro-brewery was set up in Oldbury to serve a number of Ansell's pubs around the West Midlands which were re-branded with the name and refitted in an ersatz Victorian style.

The Banks's pub in the background, the George Hotel, has since closed and now forms part of the Wolverhampton University campus.

Being curious as to why the St. George's flag was flying on the tower of St. Peter's church, I have discovered that this was the day when Prince Andrew, Duke of York married Sarah Ferguson at Westminster Abbey.
