Embossed silver - Djokja silver

The usual technique of the djokja silversmiths is floating (embossing), also called repoussé.

Floating silver is hammering out the relief from the inside.

In general you could say that djokja silver is silverware that was made by Javanese silversmiths in Kota Gede for the (Indo-)European community between about 1930 and 1970 and that is recognizable by the characteristic motifs (of which the lotus figure is the most important), and which has been given its typical contrast by blackening the silver.

I have some pieces my family brought home after they had to leave Indonesia.

This is almost 5cm.

Happy Macro Monday
