This immaculate male was a very welcome sight as they are normally shy and retiring, and I had waited many years for the opportunity to really get to grips with one. The bird was a few yards from a male Bluethroat and after a casual mention from a passing birder, I was there in a very few seconds indeed. It was in the open almost continuously and feeding voraciously, with the result that considerations like nearby humans were secondary.
