An original Deperdussin monoplane on a straight-line hop along the runway at Old Warden airfield: with wing-warping instead of ailerons this more than centenarian historic aircraft is nowadays considered insufficiently controllable for circuits. In suitably benign conditions, with other replica and even original pre-WWI aircraft, it displays as here during the Shuttleworth Trust's Bedfordshire Vintage Airshow. However, on its second hop, the aircraft banked slightly left and then back right, resulting in a delighted and humorous yell of "topsides!" from an assortment of photographers along the crowd line. The "Edwardians" are always a highlight of a visit to Old Warden.
