As WWII ended, hopes of a brave new world in peace were quickly dashed as "an Iron Curtain descended across Europe" and the Chinese civil war that had been brewing even through WWII exploded into Communist insurrection and China came under Mao's vision. This in turn drew battle lines as Korea split along similar lines and the intended world policeman of the UN turned into the Western Allies versus Communist nations. Much WWII equipment fought the conflict: Hellcats only as unturrreted utility carriers but Chaffees, Shermans and other armour in their original roles. A display during Tankfest 2023 at The Tank Museum, Bovington Camp, Dorset saw the WWII vehicles continue while post-war new tanks were added and the opposition's WWII T-34/85 shown here was introduced. The T-34 was the USSR's main tank chassis of WWII, being up-gunned from a 76 to an 85 mm gun during the war with only such other modifications as would improve combat performance (so as not to interfere with production.) Post war it began to be supplied to the USSR's Communist allies and vassal states as these were integrated into the Communist monolith.
