20230422 (94)_131_Tiger_I_and_Panzer_I_replica

A welcome visitor to The Tank Museum's Spring Tiger Day 2023 was this Belgian-owned Panzer I replica. The appearance is faithful to the original though the engine is modern. This light tank formed a substantial part of the German armour in both the Polish and French campaigns of early WWII despite very thin armour and only two MG34 machine guns as offensive armament. The Pz I was still in service in 1941, used both in North Africa and Russia, but was by then completely obsolete and very vulnerable wherever armoured opposition existed, with no capability against Stuarts or Lee/Grants in the West or T-34/KV1 in the East. It is salutary to see that this tiny vehicle, a front-line tank in 1940, served during the same war and only a couple of years before the mighty Tiger I on the hillock behind it.
