We were on a bird walk and some way from our vehicle when a small dog that had been accompanying us and was by now ranging a couple of hundred yards ahead (birders are slow), suddenly began barking into the jungle - from which emerged a bull Asian Elephant that turned towards us and began padding inexorably along the track in our direction. The dog retreated but repeatedly took a stand and barked defiance while we walked quickly away and beckoned our vehicle to close the distance to us even more quickly. The motorbike rider in the background had stopped to consider his options and eventually set off back the way he had come.
