20230219 (54)_White-rumped_Sandpiper

White-rumped Sandpiper is one of a pair of superficially similar North American shorebirds that are relatively frequent vagrants to the British Isles. Over the years I've seen a few but this first-winter at Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Gloucestershire, was the first that gave me a good opportunity to use my camera on one. The white rump is easily seen in flight but was also quite frequently revealed during preening and stretching as the bird fed on worms among the muddy shingle of the Rushy Pen.
