Until this bird arrived Eleonora's Falcon looked likely to become the most frequent rare bird that nobody ever got to see. A succession of records were of fly-overs and birds identified in retrospect from photographs - frustrating for all concerned! This not yet adult Eleonora's was so identified after a pass through a scrape at Sandwich Bay, but subsequently settled a little further South to attract a stream of hurrying twitchers from across the UK. An added attraction was a female Red-footed Falcon and on occasion the fluting of a Golden Oriole floated from the Great Wood at the same site. The Eleonora's however is a serious contender for bird of the year!
