20220411 (22)_Woodlark

I was returning to the car park from an early morning visit to Thursley Common NNR, Surrey, when two Woodlarks dropped onto burnt heath right by the path and began to display at each other. After some time it dawned on me that these were not a pair courting but two males contesting and this was confirmed when their respective females appeared and each pair departed in a different direction with territorial honour presumably satisfied.
