20210918 (73)_Tiger_II

Perhaps the real apotheosis of German tank design in WWII, a little less recognisable than the Tiger I but much more apparent as a connection to the modern MBT with sloped armour and wide tracks telegraphing its purpose to dominate a manoeuvre battle. Very very frightening.... Initially mechanically unreliable and underpowered, by March 1945 the Tiger II was equal to its contemporaries in this important respect: but only about 500 were built due to cost, size, complexity and Allied bombing so its potential was, thankfully, unrealised in practice.
