20191020 (8)_Wryneck

Wrynecks used to be a British breeding bird but all the ills of the modern world - habitat destruction and fragmentation, collapse of insect populations, enormously elevated levels of disturbance from stupidly high human population, not to mention eggers - it is no longer. However, it remains a regular though mainly coastal and unpredictable Autumn migrant and I caught up with this showy bird near Titchfield Haven NNR, Hampshire. With a quiet and respectful crowd it gave a great display as it fed at anthills along a hedge.
