20190223 (39)_Northern_Bald_Ibis

After two failures from two different approaches to the estuary at Oued Massa we drove round to the village at the North side of the estuary, overlooking the beach. There we initially turned down another local guide's offer but after seeing nothing and beginning to retreat, we saw him running towards us, and a short negotiation resulted in us engaging his expertise. The following scorch along the sandy beach to the estuary mouth itself was not good for the least fit of the team - me - but the sight that greeted us, no less than 114 Northern Bald Ibis, rapidly restored my good humour. One of the rarest birds of the Western Palaearctic and a huge target for the trip well and truly nailed. They even flew round and gave us a view not into the sun.... a fantastic bird to finish the trip.
