Drake American White-winged Scoter (centre) accompanying Velvet Scoters (drake left) on the sea off Musselburgh, Lothian. The different bill structure and colouring is obvious as is the very prominent white comma curving round the eye. On a drake Velvet the prominent colour on the bill is yellow, which extends further towards the bill base than the pinkish on the White-winged Scoter.
