A Lesser Snow Goose, a rare winter visitor to British shores from its native North America, feeding among Greylag Geese at Martin Mere WWT, Lancashire. This is a Blue Goose, one of the less common blue phase birds rather than the better-known white-with-black-wingtips majority. It had fed for several days on the saltmarsh at Marshside but on the day we visited, chose to remain on the lush grass of the WWT reserve. After a morning of fruitless searching through many hundreds of Pinkfeet, to get news and then see the Snow Goose was a relief!
It was quite feisty and chased off more than one much larger Greylag that got too close.
