Pager news brought me out of the office at high speed and off to Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve near Coventry where a summer plumage female Grey Phalarope (Americans say Red Phalarope and you can see why!) In Britain summer plumaged birds hardly ever turn up: this was my first and what an absolute joy to watch.
