ShBo-1 "Gangster"
These two aircrafts were the ideas of Sasha Bobek, a young aviator and the building was funded by the Shetsov company. The Gangster was based on his racing hydroplane, the Sh-5b, which he loved for its powerful 'W' engine, however, it lacked manouverability.
That's when he thought why would aircraft need two wings, the Sh-3 bomber already only has one. His idea was that with only one wing you create less drag and the plane would lose less speed during turns. He also found that this plane could be an excellent long range aircraft due to its large space behind the cockpit, a 700l internal tank could be fitted there. With another 300l drop tank the range could be extended to about 2000km, but only at 160kph.
The new wings have bigger control surfaces but still, during its first flight the Gangster could easily maintain 300kph, even though the Shetsov company only provided a watered-down (480hp) version of the 700hp racing engine for the project. With the Sh-5b's engine Bobek estimated that this aircraft could get close to 400kmh or even exceed it, but that's currently only a dream for him..
However, things may soon change as the military showed interest in the aircraft.
