Wall Signs for Honor Bright and Black Beauty--Highland Park MI

When the building next door was demolished, these two well-preserved wall signs on Hamilton Avenue were revealed. From the style of clothing, I'd say the signs date from the 1920s or early 30s. Honor Bright is for boys' shirts and playsuits--and from the sign, blouses as well. But it's okay, blouses were an acceptable term for boys' clothing. And as the sign says, Honor Bright is for "real boys."

Black Beauty was a line of men's work shirts. The name refers to the 19th century novel about a horse's life in London. Both brands were manufactured by the Reliance Manufacturing Company, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

There is also small sign for the Square Deal Hardware Company.
