Detroit Life Building, Park Avenue--Detroit MI
After having sat vacant for thirty years, there are finally signs of activity at this Louis Sullivan-style building on Detroit's Park Avenue (see the Guaranty Building in Buffalo, New York). Built in 1923, the structure features piers terminating in arches; the building is topped by a overhanging cornice. Yes, that is a tree growing from the roof--not uncommon for some of Detroit's abandoned buildings. The building was designed by the firm of Arnold & Shreve.
This section of Park Avenue lies with the newly proposed arena and entertainment district. This could mean either demolition or rehabilitationof this structure.
