Bonstelle Theatre (Formerly Temple Beth El)--Detroit MI
Albert Kahn designed this as Temple Beth El in 1903. In 1922 the building was recast as a theater. Unfortunately, the grand classical entrance has been lost, but the dome remains. Kahn was clearly inspired by the Pantheon in his design.
The building is double-listed on the National Register of Historic Places: as Temple Beth El and as part of the Midtown Woodward Historic District. It is also a contributing property to the City of Detroit Brush Park Historic District. The Bonstelle Theatre of Wayne State University is the current tenant, and undergraduate productions are staged here.
The next Temple Beth El, also designed by Kahn, is located further north on Woodward Avenue.
