Convento dos Congregados 1340

#2246

102

Considered to be the most emotional work of architecture of André Soares, the Basilica or Church is located in the union of parishes of São José de São Lázaro and São João do Souto. Built in the 16th century (but not finished before the 20th century), this Baroque / Rococo monument includes the statues of St. Philip of Néri and St. Martin of Dume on the facade.

The Convent, also known as Convento da Congregação de S. Filipe de Néri was erected by the Congregation of the Oratory that was invited by Canon João de Meira Carrilho. During the 18th century, this convent was enlarged when the basilica was constructed and another pavement was added to the original building.

The College completes this set of the religious heritage of Braga.
