well being Coaching

Health, happiness and wellbeing

Welcome to my website. I am an integrative therapist with private practices in East Finchley and Victoria. My specialist areas include stress, panic and anxiety disorders, depression, confidence issues and low self-esteem, unhealthy anger, and eating problems such as binge eating disorder and overeating. But whatever difficulties you are facing, like everyone else you probably want to feel calmer, happier and stronger, to know you are making the most of your talents, your relationships and your life.

I am trained in a number of different approaches to counselling and psychotherapy (including cognitive, humanistic, integrative and mindfulness-based therapies), because I believe they all contain wisdom and have something unique to offer. This allows me to use the best approach for you, whatever you want to work on.

•For example, if you're stressed I will help you find more effective ways to handle challenging situations at work or home. I will also help you understand that it's your thoughts and beliefs about those situations – whether they are a demanding boss, high-pressure job or hectic family life – that make you stressed. The good news is that this gives you the power to control your stress levels, whatever situation you find yourself in. We might also need to work on your perfectionism, procrastination, low self-confidence or low self-esteem, all of which make you vulnerable to stress.

•If you are depressed or anxious, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) will help you make small but powerful changes to the way you think – replacing negative, unhelpful thoughts with more positive and realistic ones. CBT is a proven, effective method for making changes in your life, both now and in the future. I'll teach you simple, common-sense techniques that you can use long after we stop working together. Learning mindfulness meditation will also help if you are depressed or anxious – just a few minutes a day will help you feel calmer, more relaxed and less affected by negative thinking.

•If you struggle with binge eating, overeating or other eating problems, the most effective approach is twofold. You will need to see a nutritionist who works closely with me when I'm treating people with eating problems. He will help you change your eating habits and develop a healthy, balanced diet that works for you. At the same time, I will help you tackle the unhelpful thoughts and uncomfortable feelings linked to food, dieting, body image and self-esteem that cause eating problems.

I see clients at my private practices in East Finchley and Victoria and work as part of a multidisciplinary team at the Ambition Health and Performance Clinic in Victoria.

I am also a certified cognitive behavioural coach and am a member of the Association for Coaching (AC). I abide by the AC's code of ethics.

My approach

I use proven, effective techniques that have helped thousands of people lead happier, more fulfilling lives. My approach will help you think more positively and realistically, which will change the way you feel about yourself and your life.

For example, if you suffer from stress, you probably have all sorts of unconscious thoughts which are stressing you out, such as 'I must do everything perfectly,' or 'If I mess up this presentation I'll be fired!'

If you feel stuck or blocked in some way, you may be thinking, 'I'm not clever enough to do this,' or 'I'm rubbish at everything – I will never be a success.'

These unhelpful, self-limiting thoughts cause the vast majority of your frustration and unhappiness – I will help you challenge these thoughts and replace them with realistic, constructive beliefs and strategies that will help you feel less stressed, anxious or down. I will help you to be happier, more energetic and successful – removing the obstacles standing between you and your goals. And I will help you become more confident and assertive, and figure out exactly what you want from life and how to make it happen.

Ultimately, we all want to be happier, to feel stronger and more in control of our lives, to know who we are and where we're headed – I will help you achieve that.

When you need some support

You may be feeling stressed or anxious, unable to sleep or stop your mind racing with negative thoughts. You might have been feeling depressed, low or just fed up for a long time and don't know why. You may be upset after a relationship ended or you lost someone close to you. Sometimes, as hard as you try to move on and lift your mood, you just can't seem to manage it. If so, you might need some counselling – a safe place to deal with whatever has upset you, for as long as you need.

Or you may benefit from cognitive therapy techniques, which help you tackle negative or self-critical thoughts, replacing them with more compassionate, realistic and helpful ones. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) can be incredibly powerful if you want to make changes to your life – mental health experts agree that it's the most effective form of therapy, especially for depression and anxiety. When we meet I will find out what you want to achieve, what you need right now and which approach is most helpful for you.
