Post Office Desk

This desk was once in an old brick general store in a part of West Caldwell then known as Franklin, near the current site of the town's fire department. It was used as a post office for the local farmers; they'd go to the store to send and collect mail.

The desk was later recovered during an auction in central New Jersey. The general store - the kind of place that would draw tourists if West Caldwell were still rural and still exists in out-of-the-way places in different parts of America - was demolished years ago.

The current post office, built in 1975, is a typical suburban U.S. post office - it looks like a fertilizer factory and is accessible only by car.

On the desk are newspapers from when Roosevelt was President.

Teddy Roosevelt. :-D
