Red Rabbit

What's all this about hatchbacks not selling in the United States? I seem to find VW hatchbacks allover the place! :-)

Back when I was kid, the original Golf, marketed, in America as the Rabbit, was as ubiquitous as the Beetle had been. Despite the Rabbit's techincal gltiches, VW took a chance and re-inrtoduced the Rabbit name on the Mark 5 Golf in the U.S. and Canada. It helped boost sales a bit, though not much. The Mark 5 was so much bigger and plusher than the Mark 1, the Rabbit name was all the two models shared in these two countries.

Though I question the color choice - red? - this 2008 model is a fine specimen, with its 2.5-liter five-cylinder powerplant (the standard engine for the new Golf).
