Fest For Beatles Fans, 2014: Martin Lewis With Pattie Boyd and Billy J. Kramer
Here's my last picture of the 2014 Beatles convention: MC Martin Lewis leading a panel discussion with Pattie Boyd and Billy J. Kramer.
Because the convention lasted all weekend, and because the Saturday events continued well into the night, I was only able to scratch the surface of all of the activities; I had to catch an early outbound bus if I wanted to return home at a decent hour. So I missed things like a re-creation of the Cavern (with live music) and appearances from Peter Asher, the Smithereens (who, despite their Beatles-influenced music and their shared New Jersey roots with Bruce Springsteen, did not become a major commercial force in the 1980s - thanks for nothing, MTV!) and, in a Sunday appearance only, Beatles author and musicologist Mark Lewisohn, now in the middle of a three-volume Beatles biography that will likely match the breadth and scope of Robert Caro's multi-volume biography of that other '60s icon, Lyndon Johnson. (Volume One of Lewisohn's work is out now.) And that's just a partial list of whom I missed there. :-(
I just hope the Smithereens didn't play "Behind A Wall of Sleep" in Pattie Boyd's presence. That song mentions another '60s British model. :-D
Anyway, that's it for 2014. As of this writing, the 2015 New York Metro Beatles convention is scheduled for the weekend of March 20, 21 and 22 of that year. No word on exactly where in the New York area it's going to be just yet. Cheers! :-)
