Fest For Beatles Fans, 2014: Cousin Brucie and Ronnie Spector

Ronnie Spector, born Veronica Bennett and famous as the lead singer of the Ronettes, joined Cousin Brucie and shared memoris of showing the Beatles around Manhattan - I think she said she took them to see the Apollo Theater in Harlem - with Brucie and his radio listeners, as well as the live audience at the convention. Ronnie Spector is a fifth Beatle by way of her ex-husband Phil's work with the group on Let It Be and his subsequent work with John Lennon and George Harrison in their solo careers, as well as her personal friendships with all four Beatles and and some songs George wrote for her.

The Ronettes had big hits in the early sixties with "Be My Baby" and "Baby I Love You," and, as I might have mentioned earlier on this photostream, Billy Joel originally wrote "Say Goodbye To Hollywood" with her in mind. Her cover version, with backing by Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, came out soon after Joel's own version on his Turnstiles LP.
