The Last Bus
s is a 1979 Volkswagen Bus, still in the style of a bread box, and still the ideal vehicle to take to Grateful Dead concerts. Alas, 1979 was a disco year. It was also the last year the Bus would grace Volkswagen showrooms.
The third-generation Transporter passenger van, called the Vanagon in the United States, would debut in 1980. It would have a rear-mounted engine, and it would, at first, still be cooled by air. To many VW fans, though, the real thing was gone.
