Musk Ox Calves
Three Musk Ox Calves huddle together for security at the Large Animal Research Station in Fairbanks Alaska.
These calves were born last May, two males and one female. They are well built to deal with the cold temperatures but don't like strangers, like me, around. I was told that herding them is very difficult as Musk Ox simply gather together and stare at the threat. However, they are neophobic (afraid of new things); so to move them from pen to pen simply put a strange object (like a new rock or tractor tire) in the pen they are in and they will move to the pen that does not contain strange objects to get back to familar surrondings.
