Polychrome Mountain

Polychrome Mountain, taken from Sable Pass.

It is called polychrome as the rock is very colorful. It is an intrusion of basalt and rhyolite and has lots of iron in it.

You may recall that rhyolite is the same rock as the area around Yellowstone.

Of course in this shot, it's all white from the first winter snow.
