In Memoriam: Wystan
April 14, 1909, postcard message (auf Deutsch) from Rochester, N.Y, to John T. Walther, 433 Hamilton Place, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
"We heard last night that Sophie was to be married today. I don't know, whether it is true. Oh! our dear old mother! I feel like screaming, when I think of it, how she has to suffer."
[The 1910 Michigan Alumnus magazine reported that the card's addressee, John Theodore Walther, a 1909 University graduate in engineering, had become an apprentice at the Westinghouse Company, and was living in Pittsburgh.]
