Michigamua hazing ritual, 1924: a fake Indian manhood ceremony beneath the Tappan Oak.
"Redskin" braves (coated in brick dust -- some wearing feather decorations) pull initiates from a huddle that surrounds the Tappan Oak. Shirts of these "palefaces" are literally torn from their bodies before they are dragged away to be splashed with water and dusted in red pigment, then roped in a double line to be frog-marched across State Street and up numerous flights of stairs to the Michigamua Room at the top of the Union tower.
