Tuning pin layout
The scribe lines for the tuning pins come first - somewhat arbitrarily placed. Then the T-bevel is set to the angle of side-draught I've chosen, in this case, if I remember correctly, about 6.5º. It is important to use a spacer as wide as half the diameter of a tuning pin, so that the center for drilling the tuning pin is offset that distance from the outer edge of the pin, where the string will actually go. In the treble this makes little difference, but in the bass, where the pins are very close to the nut, failing this step the angle can increase very significantly.
