White Canyon, Sinai [4810]
The ruck/camera bag I carried during the trip. Seems I volunteered to carry our water, food, first-aid, and other sundry supplies for the trek in the desert. I have a number of Domke and Lowe camera bags, but don't like to look like I am carry a few thousand dollars worth of camera gear at times.
Why the American flag? For better or for worse, the locals always first assumed we were Israeli tourists, and between the two, I figure I might as well get identified correctly if things went really wrong.
In most cases, neither is a bad thing. All the locals we met at least said they are fans of both nationalities, since the area depends on tourism, and along the southern coast, most of the tourists are Israelis, and that the peace that the Sinai depends on for tourism was brokered by the US (and supported by the massive annual financial aid to Egypt). I also think we tip better than the Europeans ;-)
