Shiloh Plans a Trip [1343]

Shiloh died this morning, two weeks short of her fourteenth birthday.

In a happier time, Shiloh gets ready for a month-long vacation at my house, while Shari, her owner was working out-of-state. Little did she know she was signed up for doggie boot camp, and would drop about five pounds after weeks of playing in the backyard, and missing her usual regiment of in-between meal snacks.

In the photo, she is in another classic pose -- the begging position. She could go for long periods of time, begging patiently, or nearly so. One of the cruelest things Shari did was to get a glass topped dining room table, so Shiloh could watch people eat, from her position under the table. It was somewhat discomforting to look beyond your plate, while eating, to see Shiloh head staring up at you , though the table.

Unlike the dining room table, Shiloh saw food on a coffee table as fair game. She knew she wasn't supposed to, so when she saw an opportunity, she struck fast--be it an unsuspecting loaf of bread, or even an entire pizza. She was caught in the act of dragging the pizza off, but the loaf of bread (still wrapped in plastic) was a mysterious disappearance, until Shiloh was caught in the corner munching hard.

besides eating and sleeping, her favorite thing to do would be to go on long walks -- in search of kitties to chase. The funniest part, was she didn't even need to see a kitty -- she just needed to hear the command "get the kitty" to get all worked up, and choke herself on her leash. Every so often, she would actually see a cat, and chase after it, if she could get away. When she was younger, she could really move when motivated. Unfortunately, on the few occasions she actually did catch a cat, she didn't know what to do with it, other than bark at it. When it came down to a fight, the cat always won (I think they are meaner).

Besides cats, her arch nemesis was the vacuum cleaner. Woe to any vacuum, be it upright or dust buster that dared enter her domain. Unlike the cats, shiloh knew what to do, and would bite the vacuum until it submitted.

I am going to miss her very much.
