Banded Yellow Rail

Yellow Rails are very secretive and normally quite difficult to see. They move south to spend the winter near the gulf coast and can be found in wet rice fields. Consequently, the Yellow Rails and Rice Festival was created to optimize chances for birders to see the Yellow Rails. This rail was banded and outfitted with a transmitter in an attempt to track where it went after the field was harvested. Sora, Virginia and King Rails were also present in some of the fields near Thornwell, LA.
