Texas State Capitol
The Texas State Capitol, anchoring 22-acres of landscaped grounds originally designated as Capitol Square in 1839, was designed in 1881 by architect Elijah E. Myers, and was constructed from 1882 to 1888 under the direction of civil engineer Reuben Lindsay Walker. Build in Italian Renaissance Revival style.
The Texas Capitol, built in 1888, is sited on one of Austin's highest point covering approximately 22 acres of landscaped lawns dotted by 17 monument. The grounds anchor the northern periphery of the downtown commercial district and the southern periphery of the University of Texas at Austin campus. A 1995-96 renovation of the historic Grounds returned the park-like setting to its 1888-1915 appearance.
