Limes Arabicus: Resafa XIV, Martyrion

The Martyrion has a quatrefoil shape inscribed by a square. A “bema“ (raised platform) is inserted in the apse. A quatrefoil colonnade defines the inner shape of the Martyrion and the main nave of the church. The floor and walls are made of gypsum stone found in Resafa and the great monolithic columns are of rose-colored marble. The two apsidal chapels are well preserved; the capitals and the archway carved like lace.
