Remembering Palmyra: Tertrapylon
The Tetraplya were monuments built at the crossroads of key streets, and their structure had a gate on each of the four sides. This Tetrapylon coincides with the point where the direction of the colonnade street changes bending, slightly, toward North. The Tetrapylon of Palmyra (reconstructed with material found in situ) was built in the 2nd Century AD. It is one of the rare monuments of Palmyra where granite columns were employed.
