The athlete and his attendant - II

The funerary stele shows two figures standing one in front of the other. They are an athlete, the deceased young, and his attendant. The bust of the athlete is represented in three-quarters, his head in profile. The features and the anatomy of the young are rendered with great precision despite the relief is really very low. The right arm is lowered at the waist while the left arm is raised up to the shoulder and the palm turned towards the observer. The head of the young athlete is bent downward. His melancholy gaze is directed towards the attendant. The youth is standing in front of him, holding two typical tools form athletes: an aryballos containing ointment and a strigil.
