Mining bee landscape

A shot of one of the paths through the heathland restoration that is Beacon Hill reserve. The topsoil turns grey with weathering, but underneath it is orange, and this shot shows just how many mining bee mounds there are in a small area. I have never seen a site like. it. I found it astonishing that they thrive in such a frequently trampled area as a footpath that is well used by dog walkers.

I was back a few days later in heavy rain and there was no trace of any of this and the path looked more like a river. I hope the bees survived.
