Moose Mom and Calf

Shyla and I were riding up a wooded trail when I suddenly spotted this mother moose and very young calf standing stock still.
Meeting a protective mother moose with a new calf is very dangerous. I told Shyla to "sit and stay", and she did!!! I leashed her, and used my pocket camera to grab a quick photo. Then, Shyla and I went the other way.
I've feared such an encounter all spring. I'm glad the first one went peacefully but I will remain on high alert so none of us gets hurt by accidentally scaring a moose.
Believe it or not, I am far more scared of moose than of black bears or mountain lions!
