The Seventeen-Arch Bridge

Photographywise things didn't go so well in Beijing. During the three days I spent there it was hard to tell where the smog ended and the fog started. A couple of things I wanted to photograph didn't work out at all. But it ain't over till it's over they say and so I stumbled into the summer palace one afternoon and despite all the prep work I had done before my visit, found this bridge by pure accident. Not only that but also the terrible conditions suddenly built the perfect backdrop for this shot. To this day it's one of my favorite images.

And then, as funny as it may sound, I almost got lost in the summer palace. It was way after dark when I got back to the main entrance only to find out it was closed. From there it took me probably about an hour to find the exit in the dark. Ironically it was just about next to the bridge.

If you think it's already a major achievement to not find your way out of a tourist attraction, only one day later I almost got lost on the great wall...
