Blood and Sand

I admit I loved to watch Spartacus the TV show. Hence, the title. To be historically correct though, Spartacus died long before the Colosseum in Rome was built.

The Colosseum is a stunning architectural piece and one can only wonder what it looked like in its heyday. However, when you pause for a second and try to imagine what it must have felt like walking into the arena, watched by up to 50.000 spectators, not knowing if you will walk out of it, it certainly becomes a little darker than the illumination shows today. Although it happened in a society almost two thousand years ago I way too often wonder if we have evolved all that much.

The good thing is that nowadays, the only major threat to your health when walking this place is to get hit in the face with a selfie-stick.
