Canadian Forces - Operation OPEN SPIRIT 2014 (Latvia)
Members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) are participating in Operation OPEN SPIRIT 2014 in Latvia between 9 and 22 May 2014. Op OPEN SPIRIT is an annual, combined and joint operation aimed at clearing explosive remnants of war (ERW).
This year’s operation includes military members from the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) and 14 nations: Latvia, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Turkey, United States, and Canada. The operation is led by the Latvia Naval Flotilla and is based out of the Latvian Naval Base in Liepaja, located in west Latvia on the Baltic Sea. ERW will be cleared in the Territorial Waters and Exclusive Economic Zone of Latvia.
Des membres des Forces armées canadiennes participent à l’opération Open Spirit 2014, en Lettonie, du 9 au 22 mai 2014. L’opération Open Spirit est une opération annuelle, combinée et interarmées pour neutraliser des restes d’explosifs de guerre (REG).
Cette année, l’opération compte des militaires du Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 et de 14 pays : Lettonie, Belgique, Danemark, Estonie, France, Norvège, Suède, Finlande, Pologne, Allemagne, Lituanie, Turquie, États-Unis et Canada. L’opération est menée par la flottille navale lettonne et est basée à la base navale lettonne de Liepaja, située dans l’Ouest de la Lettonie, sur la mer Baltique. La neutralisation de REG aura lieu dans les eaux territoriales et la zone économique exclusive de la Lettonie.
