52 Week Self Portrait Project - Week 6 – “Monday Mornings” What is the very first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? For myself, I reach over and unplug my phone after banging on the alarm clock in attempt to engage the snooze button. There’s nothing more satisfying than that extra 10 minutes of sleep before I’ve got to get up and get my morning started. After I find my way through at least 2 rounds of “snoozes” I grab my phone and begin reading emails, looking through my calendar for what my priorities are for the day, and lastly browsing through each social network for updates that require my attention. I believe the first hour you’re awake you set the tone for your whole day. My day always requires steady attention to email, calendar, and social networks, so this is always the first thing I do. Once you’ve identified what your days will typically require from you, try and build some activities into the first hour you're awake to help you pay attention to your goal the rest of the day. For example, if you’re trying to loose weight, or gain muscle, begin your morning with a healthy dose of protein and other nutrients to prepare your mind and body for your workout later.
