NOVEMBER 6, 2014-ATLANTA: Atlanta composer Richard Prior listens as Atlanta Symphony Orchestra music director Robert Spano the orchestra through its first rehearsal of Prior's Symphony No. 3 at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta on Tuesday November 17th, 2014. Prior's symphony will be performed by the in concerts tonight and Saturday-Sunday. It's a big opportunity for the British-born Prior, who is Emory University's director of Orchestral Studies and conductor of Emory University Symphony Orchestra and Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra. Prior, who conducted ASO musicians in three benefit performances during the nine-week lockout, talks about how he realized as he was writing this piece that the music in his head merged with the story of his late grandmother who encouraged his early music career in Kent.
