Magpie Inkcap (Coprinopsis picacea)

My best fungi so far this year, although there seem to have been much less this year than previously. Like most ink caps, this fungi begins to liquefy and decay shortly after fruiting. It is a native to Britain. A new growth can be seen emerging from the wood chippings towards the bottom left of the picture which was taken underneath and acer at Wakehurst Place in Sussex.
