Blacks eyes

1972 Bambini nelle baracche della borgata Mandrione a Roma.

 

Il Mandrione negli anni '70 era luogo fortemente malfamato. Da anni non esiste più come baraccopoli. Ricordo ancora quella piovosa mattina. Si creò subito un rapporto di fiducia e curiosità tra me e quei bambini. Quegli occhi neri furono disponibili e si divertirono molto. Andando via regalai loro qualche spicciolo, non avendo, da studente, molte disponibilità. Loro non mi chiesero mai nulla, nè prima nè dopo le foto!!!

Questa fu l'enorme lezione che ancora oggi ricordo.

The Mandrione in the 70s was highly disreputable place. For years no longer exists as slums. I still remember that rainy morning. It immediately created a relationship of trust and curiosity between me and the children. Those eyes blacks were available and enjoyed themselves very much. Going away I gave them a few coins, not having, as a student, a lot of availability. They did not ask me anything, either before or after photos!

 

This was the great lesson that I still remember today.
