after midnight / barnes block

A warm foggy January night at the corner of Queen Street and Gore street.

The Victorian three-storey Barnes Block was built in 1902, by druggist Theron T. Barnes, and operated as a drug store from 1902-1969. The Barnes Block is representative of Victorian Romanesque architectural style with robust masonry, vibrant colour, contrasting window arches and sills, and a unique cornice. It also incorporates a distinctive gothic inspired corner turret and roof cupola topped with a druggist’s mortar and pestle.
